Komnas HAM Declares Human Rights Friendly 2024 Elections

JABAR EKSPRES – The National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM) has declared the 2024 Regional and General Elections Human Rights Friendly to ensure that every citizen can get their right to vote.

“Especially in today’s declaration, Komnas HAM wants to pay more attention to vulnerable marginalized groups,” said Komnas HAM Chairperson Atnike Nova Sigiro at the Komnas HAM Office, Jakarta, Sunday.

Atnike said every citizen is equal in their human rights, but in this equality there are still people, individuals and groups, who do not get equal access.

“So Komnas HAM wants to invite not only election organizers, but also political parties and the community, so that none of our brothers and sisters are left behind in the democratic party,” she said.

He also reminded that there are rights in elections that are protected by Komnas HAM, including the right to participate in government, the right to elect and be elected, and the right to obtain equal access to public services.

Therefore, Komnas HAM invites us to jointly realize the implementation of simultaneous elections and regional elections in 2024 which are not only direct, general, free, secret, honest, fair (LUBER JURDIL), but also able to support various aspects of fulfilling human rights for every citizen, especially marginalized groups.

Komnas HAM together with KPU, Bawaslu, and political parties then voiced four points of the Human Rights Friendly Election Declaration, namely:

1. Guarantee the fulfillment of the Voting Rights of Marginalized-Vulnerable Groups.
2. Guaranteeing Election Access that is inclusive of Marginalized-Vulnerable Groups.
3. Realizing elections and simultaneous elections in 2024 that are free of discrimination, non-violent and fair.
4. Realizing elections and simultaneous elections in 2024 that are free of hoaxes, slander, and hate speech.

The declaration is also a joint commitment in realizing the implementation of 2024 simultaneous elections and regional elections that are free and fair and respect human rights principles; encourage the implementation of elections that are not manipulative and reflect the reality of the actual elections and not the results of vote manipulation; and encourage efforts to handle and eliminate discriminatory practices against vulnerable marginalized groups.
