JABAR EKSPRES – Head of the Karangetang Volcano Observation Post, in Sitaro Islands Regency, North Sulawesi, Yudia P Tatipang said that volcanic activity recorded every six hours showed a downward trend.
“There is a downward trend, relatively lower than previous times,” said the Head of Karangetang PGA Post, Yudia P Tatipang in Manado, Friday.
This relatively declining volcanic activity is indicated by the recording of volcanic earthquakes as well as leaks and the distance of lava slides.
He said, from the data recorded today, the observation period at 00.00 – 06.00 WITA was 12 cluster earthquakes, the next six hours were 12 cluster earthquakes and in the period at 12.00 – 18.00 WITA there were 10 cluster earthquakes.
While the recording of the earthquake on Thursday (08/6), at 00.00 – 06.00 WITA was 30 times, at 06.00 – 12.00 WITA was 17 times, at 12.00 – 18.00 WITA was 16 times and in the period 18.00 – 24.00 WITA was 14 times.

Meanwhile, according to him, for the distance of the glide of lava that was previously seen up to 2,000 meters, reduced to 1,500 meters.
Even so, he hopes that people must remain vigilant because the potential for increased activity is still possible.
“Currently, it can be said that the volcanic activity is relatively decreasing, but in the future, we don’t know,” he said.
At alert level III, PVMBG still recommends several things for the public to do.
People, visitors and tourists should not approach, not climb and not do activities within the danger forecast zone, namely a radius of 2.5 kilometers from the top of crater two and the main crater and a sectoral expansion area to the southwest, south, southeast as far as 3.5 kilometers.
The public is expected to be aware of lava flows and hot clouds that can occur at any time from the previous buildup of lava material because the condition is not yet stable and easily collapses, especially to the south, southeast, west and southwest sectors.
