Jokowi: Sign Perpres to Accelerate The Construction of VVIP Airport in IKN

JABAR EKSPRES – Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has signed Presidential Regulation Number 31 of 2023 on the Acceleration of the Construction and Operation of a Very Very Important Person (VVIP) Airport to Support the Capital of the Archipelago (IKN).

As an official copy of the Presidential Regulation uploaded on the State Secretariat’s website, monitored in Jakarta, Friday (6/9), it is stated that the acceleration of the construction and operation of VVIP airports needs to be carried out immediately to develop aviation infrastructure and support IKN connectivity.

“The VVIP airport is a special airport used to serve the interests of government activities in IKN,” article 2 of the Presidential Regulation reads.

The construction and operation of the VVIP airport is located in Penajam District, North Penajam Paser Regency, East Kalimantan Province. Later, land needs, facility needs and facility layout, as well as airport flight operation safety areas are determined by the Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi.

In the Presidential Regulation, President Jokowi assigned Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono and Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi to accelerate the construction and operation of the IKN VVIP Airport.

The implementation of the development assignment includes technical planning, land acquisition, construction implementation, operation, maintenance, and funding.

The development assignment consists of four facilities, namely first safety and security facilities, second air side facilities including runways, runway strips, Runway End Safety Areas, stopways, clearways, taxiways, and parking lots, third land side facilities, including roads in the area, and fourth access roads to the VVIP airport.

President Jokowi also stipulates that the construction and operation of the VVIP airport is sourced from the State Budget (APBN) and other legal sources, and is not binding in accordance with the provisions of laws and regulations.

Meanwhile, land acquisition for the construction of the VVIP Airport comes from land provided by the Land Bank Agency.
