JABAR EKSPRES – The Indonesian team had to settle for a silver medal after losing on penalties against Malaysia in the final match of Celebral Palsy (CP) soccer at the Olympic National Stadium, Phnom Penh, Thursday (8/6) night.
Indonesia lost 2-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw until full time and 2×10 minutes of extra time.
Malaysia took the lead when the second half had only been running for one minute or in the 31st minute through Mohamad Sobri Ghazali’s kick in front of the goal after receiving a through ball.
Trailing 0-1 made Indonesia appear more aggressive in order to score an equalizer. However, a number of opportunities from Yahya Hernanda, Yahya Muhaimi, and Cahyana still did not produce goals, even hitting the post several times.
Indonesia’s efforts resulted in an equalizer in the 60th minute thanks to Diky Hendrawan’s shot in the penalty box after grabbing a rebound.
After that, Indonesia tried to score the winning goal in the remaining time. However, the Red and White team’s efforts have not been able to break into the opponent’s goal guarded by Noor Muhammad Ariff.
No goals were scored until full time ended. The match had to be continued into extra time.
Both teams also failed to score during the 2×10 minute extra time so that the winner of the match had to be determined on penalties.
Malaysia’s three kickers Mohamad Sobri, Muhammad Uthman Surur and Ahmad Farihan Mohamed did their job well. Meanwhile, Yayan Hernanda’s penalty kick was read by Noor Muhammad.
Indonesia lost the penalty shootout 2-3 to Malaysia and had to settle for bringing home a silver medal at the 2023 ASEAN Para Games in Cambodia.
The Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Indonesia (Menpora RI) Dito Ariotedjo who watched the match live appreciated the struggle of the Indonesian team on the field until the end of the match.
