KP Minister Seals 20 Tons of Imported Salem Fish not in Accordance with The Designation

JABAR EKSPRES – Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, sealed 20 tons of imported fishery commodities in the form of salem fish owned by PT D in Batu Ampar area, Batam, Riau Islands, because it did not match the designation.

“So this is part of the enforcement, we give a warning to Mrs. Ayen (manager, ed.) because there is imported fish that we give permission specifically for pemindang so it cannot go to the local market,” said Trenggono after sealing imported salem fish in Batam, Thursday (6/8).

Thus, he said, the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has given the first warning to business actors, but in the future, if they are found to have committed violations again, it will affect the trade balance recommendations which have an impact on import licenses.

The imported salem fish from China, he continued, will go through a further checking process to determine further handling.

Trenggono said there was a leak in the distribution of imported salem fish directly into the local market, disrupting the demand for local fish from Indonesia, such as mackerel and other capture fish.

On the same occasion, the Financial Manager of PT D, Ayen said that the fish were obtained from Jakarta importers with the lure of low prices.

He admitted that he did not know that the imported salm fish sold for Rp20,000 per kilogram could not be sold directly to consumers.

“I was offered by a Jakarta person, he said salem. We bought it because it was cheap,” he said.

The imported salem fish can only be used for the pemindangan industry. This is in accordance with KKP’s commitment based on Law Number 7 of 2016 concerning the Protection and Empowerment of Fishermen, Fish Cultivators, and Salt Farmers.
