JABAR EKSPRES – A total of 296 married couples (pasutri) of Indonesian citizens (WNI) who work and live in the Tawau area passed a happy day by participating in the Itsbat Nikah held by the Indonesian Consulate Tawau.
In a statement received in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday (5/31), Indonesian Consul Tawau Heni Hamidah said the Itsbat Nikah activity started on May 22 and was a form of state presence in protecting Indonesian citizens.
She said marriage registration is one form of protection, with the hope that Indonesian citizens and their children have official documents and legal certainty.
The Indonesian Consulate in Tawau congratulated the participants of Itsbat Nikah and Integrated Services for Population, Civil Registry and Immigration Documents 2023, Heni said.
Indonesian citizen from South Sulawesi Mohamad Asrul, who participated in Itsbat Nikah 2023 with his wife Rosmini at the Indonesian Consulate in Tawau, said they had long waited for this opportunity to legalize their marital status under state law.

“Alhamdulillah, I feel happy and relieved. I have been waiting for this activity for a long time. Our lives are now complete,” said Mohamad Asrul.
Asrul admitted that he had married religiously in 2016, and now feels relieved to have been legally recorded, because then they get legal certainty and their rights as a family.
The Itsbat Nikah activity can be carried out thanks to the cooperation and collaboration between the Indonesian Consulate in Tawau and the Central Jakarta Religious Court, the Directorate of Population Registration and Civil Registration of the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Directorate of Indonesian Citizen Protection of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which specifically brought a group from Jakarta for the activity.
The Itsbat Nikah activity was officially opened which was marked by a gong blow by the Indonesian Consul Tawau. The opening ceremony took place solemnly and was attended by guests of honor from the Pengarah Jabatan Hal Ehwal Agama Islam Negeri Sabah, and Pengerusi Lembaga Kebajikan Perempuan Islam Malaysia Perhubungan Negeri Sabah.
