JABAR EKSPRES – Portugal national team coach, Roberto Martinez, officially announced 26 players to play two Euro 2024 Germany qualifiers against Bosnia & Herzegovina on June 18 and also against Iceland on June 21, as reported by Portugal’s official website on Tuesday (5/30).
In Euro 2024 qualifying Group J, Portugal is currently leading the standings with six points, the results of two wins against Liechtenstein (4-0) and Luxembourg (0-6).
From 26 the name called by the former Belgian national team coach, there is one new name, namely Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Toti Games. Footballer 24 that year appeared quite nicely this season with his club by recording 20 appearances in all competitions with one goal.
The 49-year-old coach said, apart from Toti playing well with Wolves, the summoning of the player born January 16, 1999 was also because the player had different attributes from the defenders he had in the Portuguese national team.
“He is a very interesting player for us because he has different skills compared to other center-backs in the national team. Physically very strong in duels, he is left-handed. His game at Wolverhampton was very good,” Martinez said.
“It’s not about excluding players, it’s about deciding with different characteristics in mind. We need to have players with different abilities in the national team and I think Toti can offer that,” he added.
In the Euro 2024 qualifiers this June, Wolves contributed the most players with a total of four players (Jose Sa, Nelson Semedo, Toti Gomes, Ruben Neves). This number is followed by two clubs, FC Porto (Diogo Costa, Pepe, Otavio) and Paris Saint-Germain (Danilo Pereira, Vitinha, Renato Sanches) who each contributed three players.
