JABAR EKSPRES – Former Toronto Raptors coach Nick Nurse has reportedly agreed to become the new coach of the Philadelphia 76ers next season.
Reporting from AFP, Tuesday (5/30), Nurse will take over the 76ers squad that had forced the Boston Celtics to undergo the seventh game of the NBA Eastern Conference semi-finals, and led to Philadelpia’s defeat and the dismissal of its coach Doc Rivers earlier this month.
The Philadelphia 76ers have failed three times in a row in the last three seasons in the NBA Eastern Conference semifinals when handled by Rivers.
Nevertheless, Rivers is one of the coaches who is fairly enough to collect a record of 154 wins and 82 defeats while in charge of Philadelphia. In addition, it was also under Rivers that Joel Embiid won his first Most Valuable Player (MVP) award this season.
Meanwhile, Nurse has parted ways with the Toronto Raptors this April after five seasons in charge of the team, including bringing it to the NBA champions in 2019.
Philadelphia last won the NBA title in 1983. But the Sixers boast NBA Most Valuable Player (MVP) and leading scorer Joel Embiid and star guard James Harden as they try to reach the NBA Finals for the first time since 2001.
Nurse and 76ers President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey are said to have known each other since Nurse’s two seasons coaching the Houston Rockets development club, when he was Rockets general manager.
