SAR Team: Rescuing Bogor Tourists Almost Drowned in the Sea

JABAR EKSPRES —A tourist from Bogor Regency almost drowned in the sea at Karanghawu Beach, Cisolok Subdistrict, Sukabumi Regency, West Java, on Tuesday (25/4).

“The victim, identified as Tata (28), almost drowned after taking photos on a rock at Karanghawu Beach, when suddenly a large wave came and immediately rolled over his body. Luckily, the joint SAR team who were at the location quickly provided assistance,” said Sukabumi Police Chief, AKBP Maruly Pardede in Sukabumi.

Information gathered from the coast guard officer, this marine accident began when the victim and his friends were busy taking selfies on the reef at Karanghawu Beach.

Actually, the lifeguard had warned all tourists to be vigilant when taking selfies on the reef, because the waves could come suddenly plus the slippery condition of the reef.

While taking pictures with her friends, Tata, who didn’t realize that the waves were coming, tried to run so that her body wouldn’t be exposed to the sea water, but she slipped and fell into the sea and her body was swept away by the waves and then dragged by the underwater currents of Karanghawu Beach.

The SAR team that was on standby at the location, saw the incident immediately provided assistance and managed to save the victim.

Meanwhile, Karanghawu Beach tourism area security control officer AKP Roni Haryanto added that the rocks around the Karanghawu Beach tourist attraction are always a spot for tourists who like to take selfies.

“At the time of the incident the victim was taking pictures while standing on the reef, but suddenly the victim slipped and fell into the sea and was carried away by the current,” he said.

The rescue process was quite dramatic due to the craggy location plus high waves and waves that could endanger rescue workers.
