Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok Holds Indonesian Festival to Promote Indonesian Culture

JABAR EKSPRES – The Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok together with Walailak University Thailand held an Indonesian Festival on July 17-18 aimed at promoting Indonesian culture.

“Good relations between the kingdoms of Indonesia and Thailand have been established well before Indonesia’s independence, such as in the 12th century during the Kingdom of Sriwijaya and Majapahit. Until now, this good relationship continues to develop in various fields of cooperation thanks to the active role of stakeholders in both countries, including Walailak University which has several MoUs on educational cooperation with several universities in Indonesia,” said the Education and Culture Attaché of the Indonesian Embassy in Bangkok, Achmad Wicaksono in a statement here on Thursday (7/20).

Achmad explained that the Indonesian Festival activity is an effort to promote Indonesia continuously to the Thai people as well as a forum for the younger generation of Thailand to get to know Indonesia closer and better so that people-to-people contact can be established between the people of Indonesia and Thailand.

At the opening ceremony, the entire audience at the Si Thammarat Rectorate Building of Walailak University Thailand thoroughly enjoyed the performance of the Bambangan Cakil Dance, he continued.

The first day of activities began with an introduction to the richness of Indonesian art and culture by the Attaché of Education and Culture.

Then, it was continued with Indonesian language workshops, traditional dance Beksan Smarasanta, angklung and traditional song ‘Rasa Sayange’.

The workshop activities were attended by students from various majors.

On the second day, students of the political science faculty of Walailak University also had the opportunity to attend a public lecture entitled “Indonesian Foreign Policy and Bilateral Cooperation between Indonesia and Thailand” delivered by the Indonesian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand and UN ESCAP Representative, Rachmat Budiman.
