Police Name Suspect in French Foreigner’s Persecution

JABAR EKSPRES – The Criminal Investigation Unit of the North Kuta Sector Police has named an Australian foreigner named Jason Barletta (36) as a suspect in a case of mistreatment of a French foreigner.

Badung Police Public Relations Section Head, Iptu Ketut Sudana, revealed that the persecution of a French foreigner named Maxime Christian Claude Serres (37) occurred at Shi-Shi Bar, Jalan Pantai Pettenget, Kerobokan Kelod, North Kuta, Badung, Bali.

Sudana explained that the incident occurred when the victim MCCS and a female friend were enjoying music on the second floor of the crime scene on Thursday, July 14, at around 04.30 WITA.

While enjoying the atmosphere by dancing, the victim was approached by the perpetrator, a man who chatted with her for a moment before going to another corner of the room.

According to Sudana’s statement, the two Caucasians did not know each other. It was their first meeting at the venue.

However, a few moments later, Jason approached the victim and suddenly hit him with a green beer bottle four times on the forehead.

“As a result of this incident, the victim suffered three wounds on his left forehead and had to undergo eight stitches,” said Sudana.

After the incident, the victim, who lives in the Seminyak area of Kuta, reported the incident to the North Kuta Sector Police. The North Kuta Police Criminal Investigation Team then followed up on the report and managed to arrest the perpetrator on Jalan Batu Bolong, Canggu on the same day.

Until now, the motive of the Australian foreigner in committing the criminal act of persecution is still unknown.

Jason was charged with Article 351 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code on persecution and is currently detained at the North Kuta Police Detention Center.
