USK Wins Medal at International Event

JABAR EKSPRES – Syiah Kuala University (USK) Banda Aceh won a silver medal at the Indonesia International Internet of Things (IoT) Olympiad 2023 (I3O) by carrying a prepaid meter prototype organized by the Indonesia Young Scientist Association (IYSA).

“This product is intended as a solution to improve the efficiency of electricity use, as well as making it easier for users to manage their electricity use,” said USK’s Intelli Charge Team, M Al Lail Qadrillah from Electrical Engineering in Banda Aceh, Monday.

He explained that the prepaid meter prototype can charge electricity tokens and monitor electricity usage remotely, using a mobile application, as well as predict when the electricity token will run out.

“Through this advanced technology, users can control and manage charging tokens practically and effectively,” he said.\

The Intelli Charge USK team consists of five people, namely M Al Lail Qadrillah from Electrical Engineering, Irfan Wahyuda from Electrical Engineering, Ariq Alghifary from Electrical Engineering, Sirajul ilmi from Computer Engineering, Imam Akbar Al Khalis from Civil Engineering. The team was mentored by Aulia Rahman, a lecturer from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.

He explained the beginning of the formation of this team when they got together and discussed the daily problems that occur, namely charging electricity tokens manually which is considered less practical and difficult to ascertain when the token will run out.

“Our team conducted research on prepaid electricity meters by integrating them with the internet network and embedding artificial intelligence in them,” he said.

From the discussion, an idea emerged to charge electricity tokens online and predict when the tokens will run out, so that users can set aside money for the next purchase.

The international competition was attended by students from 13 countries, namely Vietnam, Thailand, Iran, Philippines, Malaysia, South Africa, Turkey, Indonesia, Mexico, Bangladesh, Timor Leste, United Arab Emirates and Azerbaijan.
