JABAR EKSPRES – The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded that North Sulawesi Province was shaken by tectonic earthquakes 58 times during the period June 9-15, 2023.
“Four of the 58 tectonic earthquakes were reportedly felt by the public,” said BMKG Manado Geophysical Station Data and Information Coordinator Muhammad Zulkifli in Manado on Sunday.
It was said that most or 70.69 percent had a magnitude between three and five, 27.59 percent had a magnitude of less than three and 1.72 percent had a magnitude of more than five.
According to the depth of the quake, 58.62 percent of them were shallow earthquakes (less than 60 kilometers).
While 37.93 percent are medium depth (between 60-300 kilometers) and 3.45 percent are deep earthquakes (more than 300 kilometers).
Based on the seismicity map or epicenter map, most of the quakes with shallow depths occurred on the Maluku Sea plate, namely in the waters between North Sulawesi and North Maluku.
Four earthquakes were reportedly felt by people in North Morotai (II – III MMI), Gorontalo (II MMI), Bitung (II MMI), Landak and Bengkayang (II – III MMI).
In the previous week, Manado Geophysical Station recorded 78 earthquakes.
Most or 66 percent were between three and five magnitudes, 33 percent were less than three and one percent were more than five magnitudes.
Three out of 78 earthquakes were reportedly felt by the public.
