JABAR EKSPRES – Italy secured third place in the UEFA Nations League after humiliating the Netherlands with a score of 3-2 in the third-place match at De Grolsch Veste Stadium, Enschede, Netherlands, Sunday.
Italy’s victory in this match came thanks to goals from Federico Dimarco, Davide Frattesi and Federico Chiesa, while the Netherlands had replied through Steven Bergwijn and Georginio Wijnaldum, according to UEFA records.
This is Italy’s second third place in the 2021 UEFA Nations League, while the Netherlands’ previous best achievement was second place in the 2019 edition.
In this match, the Netherlands recorded a dominant appearance by incising 61 percent of ball possession and releasing 19 kicks, six of which were on target.
On the other hand, Italy was able to appear effective despite losing possession of the ball and was able to maximize three kicks on target into goals.
In the first half Italy took the initiative to attack first and managed to score in the 6th minute thanks to a goal scored by Federico Dimarco.
Starting from a pass sent by Giacomo Raspadori, Dimarco was able to secure the ball and immediately fired a shot that broke into the Dutch goal so that the score changed to 1-0.
Furthermore, Italy was able to double the lead in the 20th minute through a left-footed shot by Davide Frattesi so that the score changed to 2-0.
Two goals behind, the Netherlands had threatened through Cody Gakpo’s shot, but the Dutch player’s efforts still did not meet the target. The 2-0 score for Italy’s advantage lasted until the first half was over.
Furthermore, in the second half the Netherlands tried to reduce the gap and was able to break into the Italian goal through a goal scored by Steven Bergwijn so that the score changed to 1-2.
After successfully reducing the gap, the Netherlands even conceded again by Italy through a goal scored by Federico Chiesa utilizing Frattesi’s pass so that the score changed to 3-1 in the 72nd minute.
