JABAR EKSPRES – The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that five regencies in East Kalimantan (Kaltim) will experience rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds on Friday and Saturday (9-10/6), so all parties are advised to be aware of the impact.
“The impact of rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds includes flooding, overflowing rivers, falling trees, slippery roads, landslides, and others,” said Meteorological Station Supervisor Class I Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman (SAMS) Sepinggan BMKG Balikpapan Carolina Meylita Sibarani in Balikpapan, Thursday.
Although only five districts are predicted to experience rain accompanied by lightning, the public and related parties in other districts / cities are expected to remain vigilant because of the potential for light rain to moderate rain in the next two days (Friday-Saturday).
The five districts that are predicted to experience rain accompanied by lightning are Berau, Kutai Kartanegara, East Kutai, Penajam Paser Utara, and Mahakam Ulu Regency.
The details are that rain accompanied by lightning in Berau Regency is predicted to occur on Friday around 20.00 and 23.00 WITA in eight sub-districts namely Tanjung Redeb, Kelay, Maratua, Derawan Island, Gunung Tabur, Sambaliung, Segah, and Teluk Bayur.
Then in Kutai Kartanegara Regency, rain accompanied by lightning is predicted to occur on Friday at around 20.00 WITA only in Tenggarong Seberang District. While a number of other sub-districts received light rain until Saturday morning.
In Penajam Paser Utara Regency, rain accompanied by lightning is predicted to occur on early Saturday at around 02.00 WITA only in Penajam District, while all other sub-districts have light rain from Friday at 23.00 until Saturday morning.
For East Kutai Regency, the said weather on Friday at around 20.00 WITA in three sub-districts namely Kongbeng, Muara Wahau, and Busang. While most other sub-districts received light rain until Saturday morning.
“Mahakam Ulu Regency, lightning rain is predicted to occur on Friday at around 20.00 and 23.00 WITA only in Long Bagun District, while other sub-districts will experience light rain until Saturday morning,” said Carolina.
