JABAR EKSPRES – The coordinator of the Indonesian para-wading team, Dimin, believes that his team can meet the gold medal target that has been set even though there are athletes who are sick and some fail on the first day.
Dimin said at the Aquatic Center Morodok Techo Phnom Penh Cambodia, Sunday (6/4), one of the para-rafting athletes, Tangkilisan Steven Sualang, was sick and not feeling well so that he experienced a decline in performance.
Nevertheless, Steven, who continued to compete in the men’s 50-meter backstroke S10, was still able to get a silver medal despite his unfit condition.
One other number that missed the gold target was the men’s 4 x 100 meter freestyle 34-point relay number where Indonesia only got a bronze medal. In the first two swimmers in the number, Indonesia had the lead. But the next two Indonesian para-swimmers were raced by the Vietnamese and Thai teams.
However, Dimin is still optimistic that the target of 27 gold from para-swimmers can still be achieved with almost all of his team in a fit condition.
“There is only one sick person, Steven, but he got silver. The others are all fit,” said Dimin.
Dimin said that although there were several numbers that missed the gold target, there were also numbers that were not targeted for gold that could even get first place. That is what is expected to close several missed gold targets.
As was the case at the 11th ASEAN Para Games in Solo Indonesia, the para-wrestling branch could present more gold medals than originally targeted.
