JABAR EKSPRES – Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR), Puan Maharani said, the Golo Mori Special Economic Zone (SEZ) could strengthen tourism infrastructure in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara.
“The Golo Mori SEZ can strengthen tourism infrastructure in Labuan Bajo. That way the tourism potential in this area will increase and open up land for local MSMEs to develop their businesses,” Puan said in a written statement received by Indonesia Window here, Thursday (5/11).
The Golo Mori SEZ is currently under the development of ITDC (Indonesia Tourism Development Corporation). Therefore, Puan advised ITDC not to only focus on the development of the main infrastructure.
“Including giving importance to supporting facilities that will make it easier for tourists to visit the Golo Mori SEZ,” Puan said.
According to her, adequate infrastructure can increase the efficiency, productivity and competitiveness of a region in facing global challenges.
Furthermore, she said the development of tourist destinations must be able to generate economic and social benefits for the local community and environment. The benefits of the development must also be felt fairly and equitably.
“For this reason, it is necessary to collaborate between the government, entrepreneurs, and local communities in developing sustainable tourism that can provide long-term benefits,” Puan said.
Puan, on the sidelines of her attendance at the 2023 ASEAN Summit, visited the Golo Mori meeting, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions (MICE) area in Golo Mori Village, West Manggarai, NTT, on Wednesday (5/10).
During the visit, Puan was welcomed by ITDC MICE Golo Mori President Director Ari Respati and his staff.
In addition, Puan also met representatives of the ASEAN Youth Standing Committee (YTC) as part of the 42nd ASEAN Summit. Puan then chatted with YTC representatives from Indonesia, the majority of whom were students.
One of the ASEAN YTC representatives, Indah, said she was happy to meet the Speaker of the House during the agenda. She also advised Puan and all members of the House to continue to prioritize the people.
