Ministry of Law and Human Rights: Grants Eid Remission to 56 Prisoners

JABAR EKSPRES —The Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) of West Kalimantan gave a reduction in the period of criminal detention or remission to 56 prisoners (napi) who were prisoners of the State Detention Center (Rutan) Class IIB Putussibau in Kapuas Hulu region.

“The special remission is in the framework of Eid al-Fitr, of course it is given to those (inmates) who have behaved well and various requirements according to the provisions,” said the Head of Putussibau Detention Center, Efendi Johan, in Putussibau Kapuas Hulu, Sunday (23/4).

Johan conveyed, the granting of remission was carried out based on the Decree of the Minister of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia number PAS-646.PK.05.04 of 2023 concerning the Granting of Special Remission (RK) for Idul Fitri in 2023.

According to him, remission is a form of appreciation for prisoners who have complied with all regulations and have good behavior while being prisoners in the detention center.

“The granting of remission is based on the assessment of prisoners while in detention, not all can get special remission, it is given to those who do meet the applicable requirements and conditions and we are only limited to proposing,” he said.

He explained that the official granting has been guaranteed by legislation given to prisoners on major religious holidays such as Eid al-Fitr and Christmas-New Year and on the anniversary of independence day.

He hopes that the submission of the special remission will be able to motivate the prisoners to achieve self-awareness which is reflected in their daily attitudes and behavior and always increase optimism in undergoing the punishment they are undergoing while in Putussibau Detention Center.

“The punishment given to prisoners is not merely a punishment, but rather a process of self-awareness so that once they return to society the inmates can actually become examples and role models of the attitudes and behavior of everyday life and not repeat acts that violate the law,” he said.
